Polypay Arcott Roving Fiber Natural White Wool Prep for Spinning Woollen 4 ounces
wool natural white spinning fiber
Most commercial spinning fiber is prepped for spinning "worsted" style, meaning the fibers are all aligned parallel to each other (running the same direction). This wool has been prepped for spinning "woollen" style, meaning the fibers run in every direction. While "worsted" style spinning produces a firmer, more hard-wearing yarn, "woollen" style produces yarn that puffs up, giving extra warmth and plush texture to whatever you make. So if you're thinking about spinning to make an Irish Aran cardigan or a Fisherman's sweater, then this is the fiber for you!
This wool is a Polypay Canadian Arcott cross so it is durable but not unpleasant to the touch. That's why it will make a great cardigan - long wearing, but spun woollen, giving it extra warmth and body!
This fiber is pretty clean with only the odd small bits of tiny veg matter. I have spun up a bit of this myself and I don't have to pre-draft it at all. That's the beauty of pin drafted roving! The staple is medium length and the fiber is soft enough for next-to-skin wear.
The raw fleece was cleaned and processed at a custom mill into pin drafted roving so there has been minimal processing and NO harsh chemicals or fiber strippers used. This means the very best qualities of this fiber have been preserved! It also means this fiber has a very small environmental foot print!
This fiber is 100% naturally white Polypay Canadian Arcott -cross wool, raised in a humane environment on a small Alberta farm. A very "close to nature" product! It has a lovely hand and anything you knit or crochet with it will hold it's shape.
On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being potscrubbers and 10 being a baby's bottom this fibers is a 5-6 with a pleasant hand. This fiber will felt and can also be dyed. Hand wash in lukewarm. Lay flat to dry. This listing is for a (very long) strip of pin drafted roving with a total weight of about 4 ounces.
